Russia's government debt shrinks

Russia's total foreign debt amounted to 33 percent of the country's GDP at the end of 2007, Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin told the 2008 Russia Forum today. He noted that the government's foreign debt accounted for 4 percent of GDP, while the banking and corporate sectors were responsible for the rest. Total government debt topped 50 percent of GDP in late 2006, Kudrin said.
