Unemployment falls in Russia

Around 4.6m people, or 6.1 percent of Russia's economically active population, were classified as unemployed as of late December 2007, according to the method of calculation recommended by the International Labor Organization, Russia's Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) stated today. Roughly 1.6m Russians were registered as unemployed with state employment agencies, and 1.3m of them were receiving unemployment benefit. Russia's economically active population was estimated at 75.3m people, or around 53 percent of the total.
