Finance Minister upbeat about Russia's GDP outlook

January 30, 2008 | RBC

Russia's GDP growth could reach 6.5-7 percent within the next three years, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin announced at the Troika Dialog-organized Russia Forum in Moscow today. He pointed out that GDP rose a higher-than-expected 7.8 percent in 2007, with the rate of increase also exceeding the 2006 figure of 7.4 percent. According to Kudrin, such indicators are giving hope for further steady economic growth in Russia. The Minister stressed that the projections were going against the flow of world economic growth expectations, adding that Russia could enjoy consistent growth irrespective of a recession on the global market, including a slowdown in economic growth worldwide and a slump in stock indices.
