Russia's international reserves reach all-time high

January 17, 2008 | RBC

Russia's gold and currency reserves reached a new record high of $477.7bn on January 11,2008, up 0.2 percent, or $1.1bn, from the previous showing. Therefore, the reserves have been increasing for three weeks straight, having added a total of $11.5bn, or 2.5 percent. As a result, Russia has continued to close the gap separating it from the world's leaders in terms of reserves, China and Japan. China now boasts more than $1.5 trillion in reserves, up 43 percent in 2007. Japan's current reserves exceed $973bn.
